Breast augmentation and
Mammograms
What is mammogram and how can breast augmentation affect it? Mammography is the process of using low
energy X-rays to examine human breast and use it as diagnostic and screening
tool. Mammography is used as an early detection of breast cancer typically
through detection of characteristic masses and microcalcifications. Mammograms
use doses of ionizing radiation to create images. In relevance with the breast augmentation, patients who undergo
surgery can still have mammograms to screen for breast cancer. It is advisable
that patient should undergo mammogram first before the implants are inserted to
provide doctors clear view of breast without the implant. After breast augmentation it will be difficult to
defect cancer with mammogram screening because the implant can obscure the view
of the underlying breast tissue. As mammogram advances there are different
techniques that are used that allow cancerous tumors to be easily detected in
women with breast implants and breast
augmentation but this advanced screening exposes women to excessive
radiation which can be harmful. Make sure that your doctor will conduct
mammograms first before going with the operation. It is part of the safety and
precaution procedure that you should take into consideration. Be guided with
